Shivanasamudra is popularly known as “Shimsa”, it is situated in Karnataka, 60 kilometer away from Mysore and approximately 148 kilometer from Bangalore.
Shivanasamudra has two waterfalls in two sides, one known as “Gaganachukki” and another one is “Barachukki”. The water fall is from the river Kaveri. On the down side of the place there is a Hydral Power Generation station belonging to Karnataka state. There is no entry for tourists to see this place. This hydral power plant is the first in Asia.
One must visit the falls to enjoy the nature’s scenic beauty.
There is generally no provision for tourists to get into the water of Gaganachukki waterfalls, but one must enjoy the flows of Barachukki waterfalls, not at the center where water flow is more. Instead tourists can enjoy an adventurous bathing in the sides of the Barachukki waterfalls, where the water flow pressure is relatively less in volume compare to the center one, but overall it is a beautiful creation of nature.
From Shivanasamudram, you can visit the place called Thalekad at the banks of Kavery. Thalekad is famous for temples submerged in sand and the main temple. The distance between Shivanasamudram and Thalakad is 35 Kms.
I had a trip to these places (third time for me) with my students Shatakshi, Susheel, Irslan, Anwar, Quasid, Ashish Augustine, Sinoj, Tharun, Jackson, Ridalion, Rani, Sarun, Sunny and Eva on 09th October 2010 (Sunday). All are from T. John College. It was an awesome trip, we all have enjoyed a lot.
