Bad temper | An amazing story...

At times when I come across annoying people around me, I get frustrated and it leads to anger sometimes. But it is very difficult to control others in a given situation, instead it is better to control my own anger.

I read lot of books whenever I get time. It is one of my passion you can say.

In one such moment while going through a story on 'Anger Mindset', I was able to relate it with my own. I realized that moment that it is better to control our own temper instead of trying to justify others.

Let me share the story....

Once, there was a little boy who used to have very bad temper, due to which he got upset quickly on small things .

His Father gave him a bag of nails and told him that every time he lost his temper, he must hammer a nail into the back of the fence.

The first day the boy had driven 37 nails into the fence.

Over the next few weeks, as he learned to control his anger, the number of nails hammered daily gradually dwindled down. He discovered it was easier to hold his temper than to drive those nails into the fence.

Finally the day came when the boy didn’t lose his temper at all.

He told his father about it and the father suggested that the boy now pull out one nail for each day that he was able to hold his temper.

The days passed and the young boy was finally able to tell his father that all the nails were gone.

The father took his son by the hand and led him to the fence. He said, “You have done well, my son, but look at the holes in the fence. The fence will never be the same."

When you say things in anger, they leave a scar just like this one. You can put a knife in a man and draw it out. It won’t matter how many times you say I’m sorry, the wound is still there.

Moral of the Story: -

A verbal wound is as bad as a physical one. Hence it is better to control the self-anger in any situation.

Never Judge Anyone! | A thoughtful story ...

This is a well-known story probably many of us heard earlier. This story is all about paradigm shift. We human have a tendency to judge others on the basis of first impression, we generally don't analyse the fact in a tensed situation, instead we show our aggressiveness and anger to dominate others.

The story goes like this...........

A doctor entered the hospital in hurry after being called in for an urgent surgery. He answered the call asap, changed his clothes & went directly to the surgery block. He found the boy’s father pacing in the hall waiting for the doctor.

On seeing him, the dad yelled, “Why did you take all this time to come? Don’t you know that my son’s life is in danger? Don’t you have any sense of responsibility?”

The doctor smiled & said, “I am sorry, I wasn’t in the hospital & I came as fast as I could after receiving the call…… And now, I wish you’d calm down so that I can do my work”

“Calm down?! What if your son was in this room right now, would you calm down? If your own son dies now what will you do??” said the father angrily.

The doctor smiled again & replied: “I will say what Job said in the Holy Book “From dust we came & to dust we return, blessed be the name of God”. Doctors cannot prolong lives. Go & intercede for your son, we will do our best by God’s grace”.

“Giving advises when we’re not concerned is so easy” Murmured the father.

The surgery took some hours after which the doctor went out happy,

“Thank goodness!, your son is saved!” And without waiting for the father’s reply he carried on his way running. “If you have any questions, ask the nurse!!”

“Why is he so arrogant? He couldn’t wait some minutes so that I ask about my son’s state” Commented the father when seeing the nurse minutes after the doctor left.

The nurse answered, tears coming down her face: “His son died yesterday in a road accident, he was at the burial when we called him for your son’s surgery. And now that he saved your son’s life, he left running to finish his son’s burial.”

Moral of the Story:

∎ Never judge anyone. Because you never know how their life is and what they are going through.

People who jump the gun in most cases happen to be foul mouthed. Just keep away from them.

A Lovely Story on 'Positive Attitude' !!

One of the essential attribute required for each individual is having positive attitude. No matter the person works others or for self, a student or a working professional, be it any gender.
The positive thinker sees 'The Invisible', feels 'The Intangible', and achieves 'The Impossible'
To remain positive do not make the excuses, rather focus on improvements. A positive person finds opportunity to improve self and remains happy.

Let me share with you an interesting Story !! It is a story of a honey bee and a little bird.

One day a small tiny bird asked a honey bee, 'I witness your hard work day by day and I observe that with your dedication and constant hard work you prepare the honey. But a man comes almost regularly and takes it away. Don't you feel sad?"
The bee had a wonderful reply to it. She said to the tiny bird, 'Never ! Because the only thing a man can do is 'stealing my honey'. But he can never steal my 'art of making honey'.

Moral of the story : Anyone can copy your creation or idea, but absolutely no one can take away your talent. With talent you can make wonders. Let's be positive always: no matter what the situation be.

Stress Vs. Passion !!

Simon Sinek is one of the greatest motivator, author, public speaker and of course a management Guru. I very much like his concept of 'WHY', which is the most important question we should have before we get into any process or service.

We most of the time focus on 'What', 'Who', 'How' but ignore the part 'Why'. 'Why' meets the purpose of something which we intended to learn. 'Why' satisfies with an answer.

Recently while reading a magazine I read one of his (Simon Sinek's) valuable lines.

"Working Hard for Something we don't Care is called STRESS,

Working Hard for Something we Love is called PASSION.

Such a meaningful lines with management lesson portrayed. If you think backwards, you will discover that we incur 'STRESS' only there where we either don't have any interest to do the job, or we really don't care much about. IN contrary, the job or work or the thing which we do in happy mind turns out to be our 'PASSION'

The Success or Failure at your current job is your BOSS !!

As a regular practice, I do scroll down the updates in my linked-in page everyday - multiple times to catch-up quickly what's happening in the world. While surfing the articles I found yet another interesting concept article written by one of my valued connection (in Linked-In) Brigette Hyacinth, The author of 'Leading the workforce of the future' book, which recently got selected as the best selling book.
What she mentioned is 'The biggest factor in whether you succeed or fail in your current job is your boss. If your boss doesn't like you, they will not give you opportunities to grow and can easily set you up to fail. You will be on shaky ground'.

What attracts me here is the resemblance of the lines in my life. I had experienced the same word to word in terms of good and bad both.

I still remember one of my former General Manager, Mr. Ranjeesh P.K., how great leader he is. I got opportunity to work with him ten years back in one of the leading hotel group as Training Manager.
The way he deals with his colleagues, provides enough opportunities to team members to grow and establish themselves as a good employee / manager. He never gets offended for loosing his patience or experiencing failure in his team; instead he inspires people to fight back for success.
Inspired by his leadership styles, many of his direct reports achieved great success and they are in well established designation today. My professional base was strengthened by Mr. Ranjeesh P.K.

Off late, I also experienced one of my recent boss, who possessed exactly the opposite attributes. He is someone, who can be portrayed in many words -
an insecure individual
loves to butter his boss to keep him happy always
can not handle fair criticism from anyone
wants to hold control of his subordinates all the time
uses power to take advantage of being boss
 can't be trusted
creates an environment of fear or authority to lead.
always says in word that 'he doesn't like politics' but 'he is the one who does the most'.
spying on employees to get personal information.
................and probably many more.

But fact remains here is what happens if you have a boss like him to work with? Simple...
As Brigette says, 'He will definitely set you up to fail'.
I experienced the same and I will never forget those moments in my lifetime. Probably I shall share the experience in form of a story some other day.

A virtual session with Sun International Institute, Vizag

"Every interaction is an opportunity to Learn"................

I love this quote very much; as a seasoned L&D professional I believe that learning has no boundaries - be it age, or profession. When I interact with people in any form I try to find an opportunity to learn from the interaction.

Recently, this week I was honored to facilitate a virtual session on 'Staying Positive during the Crisis Situation' to the enthusiastic students and faculty members of 'Sun International Institute of Tourism & Management, Visakhapatnam.

I always enjoy the 'feel-good' factor while sharing my life stories with the attendees in every situation. From my presentation, few points which I really use the most are:

➽ Leaving a Positive Memory on other's mind.

➽ Surround yourself with the 'GOOD' people always.

'Self-Work' works. Writing in your personal diary 'No matter what......'

➽ Making it as the year of 'SELF'. The six 'Self-Dimensions' - Self Respect / Self Discipline / Self Respect / Self Development / Self Esteem / Self Love

The Myths of Networking...

Networking, today's most popular word among professionals, is actually developing the relationships, building community with trust. Most professionals and students want to increase their network in order to be known in the relevant society.

Your professional network should be in place when you need it and you never know when this might be. It can help you to find a job or move up the career ladder but it needs lots of effort to maintain.

Let's discuss the myth of 'Networking', means what does not counted necessarily as networking and how to network strongly.

Other day I was attending a webinar by HBR (which I am really fan of, as I follow their articles, interviews, videos very rigorously) where three keynote speakers - Robbie Samuel (TEDx speaker and author of book), Carol Dominguez (President & CEO, Clements Consultants) and Spela Trefalt (Associate Professor, Simons University) were talking the attendees about networking.

According to Spela, networking is not just sending requests in professional platform like Linked-In and then asking for a business request to sell their product and services, or home/office appointment for a business demo. Networking is not just collecting the business cards. Networking needs to have a purpose, not just going to every networking event to increase the personal connections. Networking events are not only the platform to create networks.

One should be purpose driven. Research about the attendees, focus on what you really want to benefit from. Remember to connect with the highly influential people like CEOs, MDs, Resource persons. For this you need to be really confident.

Most people lose the chance to connect an individual in the first attempt due to their hesitance, lack of confident and quality of introvert. One should never hesitate to introduce self. If you are meeting someone in a professional networking event, extend your hand with your own introduction - Hi, Many name is Rony, I work for Accor brand. What happens the person whom you are trying to connect, will have an idea about you and the conversation will be going forward.

However, it's fact that most people like their job, but honestly there is more than a job. End the conversation with a high note and remember to draw a line, don't eat everyone's time. You can catch-up again with the same connections with your doubts or wishes.

Another amazing trait is to show your curiosity while connecting with your network. Not necessary you know everyone, but you have a choice to be very open ended and disclose your professional and express that you are looking for the similar professionals.

I personally, am fan of Linked-In. It keep s me motivated and connected with the world of professionals. However, I kind of get annoyed when I see there are some people send connection request just to jump on their requirements with business proposal.

So, here the TIPS for Linked-in users, when to accept the connections in linked-in network?

➽ Someone whom you know personally or professionally or you have worked with in any of your previous or present job.

➽ Someone you do not know, but you can be benefited from due to the similar professions.

➽ Someone who sends a connection request along with a small 'request note', which defines their purpose of getting professionally connected.

Remember, you are not here to network with people just for collecting business cards, it should be a purpose driven. You can have a strong network if you are passionate, having a purpose and mostly you need to be authentic.

Here is few networking TIPS for you.

➽ Always reach out to the right people.

➽ Stay connected with the people in your network

➽ Attend the professional networking events

➽ Extend your help to your contacts

➽ Share industry updates relevant to your profession

➽ Try building your professional network online.

Expanding your professional network is not something you should always think when you are in search of a job, but it should be part of your daily job life. You must invest your time on networking regularly to maintain sustainability. All relationships work in both directions and you can expect the benefits gradually out of it.

A meaningful quote on 'Decision Making'...

Quotes are kind of advises which tease our brain to think again or to get motivated. We kind of come across many such quotes - on motivation, inspiration, life flows, success, or even skills; most of them teach us many lessons in life.

One such quote I was reading; it was being forwarded by one of my close friend from Chandigarh (India) and it got stuck in my mind completely. I can relate the quote with many instances associated in my life. Some are really applicable to me and some to others who did injustice to me.

I wanted to mention the quote here. It is actually a life changing line, one must self-realize.

Brahmi - Brain booster wonder herb !!

Funny A.I. - My work anniversary wish from HR !!

It was the date 13-August-2018, when I joined Novotel Hyderabad Convention Centre and HICC as Associate Director - Learning & Development. With new energy and enthusiasm and with the cooperation from my then colleagues and team I was able to sustain and perform my duties and responsibilities to the fullest. In the tenure over there many recognitions came to the hotel. I myself also received two awards for 'Best L&D Leader' category - one from Accor and another from UBS Forum

However, COVID-19 has changed the scenario a bit. It tasted many professions and professionals as well. I was not someone who was spared off. I was also laid off close to a month and half before.

Fixing my mind hard to cope-up with the situation and moving ahead of life, I tried to forget few toxic people's behaviour and influences which I experienced in last six months of my tenure there at NHCC and HICC; after all I am not part of that team at all.

I was quiet successful in doing that.

But today morning (13-August-2020) at 7:10 am I received an email in my gmail account and it made me laugh. I couldn't control myself, so i read several times to get over it. It left me surprised how an artificial intelligence (AI) will always remain artificial unless it is properly handled by the user.

The so called capable HR department (the AI user) had a habit of data inputs for every employee joining the organization, so their date of joining and birth & anniversary dates along with other necessary details are fed into the system. Even after leaving the organization, where my full and final settlement was done in quick manner (by the Head for his satisfaction), the capable team couldn't fed the right data of 'exit' probably; as a result I receive a lovely wish from the hotel stating that "Team Novotel Hyderabad Convention Center (Accor Hotels) wishes you a very Happy Work Anniversary! Have a nice day and a great year ahead."

Wow ! I wish I could still be part of the organization (which I wanted but..) but it made me laugh for a solid few minutes.

God bless such capable professionals and the organization !!

The Happiness Alphabets.......

'Happiness' is the state of mind which everyone wants to hold on to themselves. Happiness is when you feel good about yourself without feeling the need for anyone else's approval.
The key to being happy is knowing you have the power to choose what to accept and what to let go.
As wisely said once by Dalai Lama,
"THE PURPOSE OF OUR LIVES IS TO BE HAPPY"

Here are the 'Alphabets of Happiness' which one should adhere to...

Accept everything in life, be it good or bad. You can not ignore few situations in life. Accept everyone for who they are and what are their beliefs.

Believe in yourself always, never doubt your instinct. What you believe you receive. You don't become what you want, you become what you believe. The happy people always believe on themselves and their capability.

Commitment is the most precious gift one can expect from others. The happy people always stick to their commitment. You commit to what you promise. A committed soul remain happy always.

Decide that you will be successful and the happiness will be on your way no matter what would be the circumstances. Your determination in life regulates your happiness.

Experience all the possibilities in life, you can not ignore them all the times. Explore the situations; it says you should learn both the 'good' and 'odd', and you will learn from both. Holding to good only will not make you happy always, you should learn how to handle the odd as well.

Forgive and forget ! Learn to forgive people who has done odds to you, who has annoyed you. You have a simple and small life to live, forgive everyone and move on. You will truly find the happiness.

Be always Grateful to each and everyone for their contribution to your life. Spread your random act of kindness. The more grateful you are more happiness you will experience.

Be humble to your self. There is a saying, "Humble people sees happiness in every situation". Your humbleness shows your character and conveys your calmness to others.

Never stop improving your skills. No one is perfect in this world, we always have a room for improvement and we must continue to excel ourselves by improving our skills, knowledge and abilities.

A joyful mind is the first sign of happiness. We accept happiness from others when we see someone is joyful. And it is the vice-versa way. It is the lovely state of mind to stay happy always.

Know your surroundings, a knowledgeable person always express happily. There is no boundary to knowledge.

Love everyone; Love your friends, families, colleagues, acquaintances or even your enemies. Hatred creates heaviness in heart whereas love makes mind and heart free. A free heart will always be happy.

Motivate yourself always for a new unknown. A motivated mind is curious to accept the challenges. There is secret to happiness when someone is self-motivated.

Network yourself with good people to receive the positive vibes - be it a personal network or a professional network. Study shows that a person surrounded with good people in networks remains happy most of the time.

To remain happy, you must observe everything. Open your eyes and observe the beauty around you. Even in the worse times there is still much to be thankful for.

No how well establish you are or how busy you are, take time out for 'praying'. Praying improves mind memory, it calms the mind and increase the spiritual mind's ability to concentrate.

Ask questions always. Remember, you do not know everything in this world, so there is always an opportunity to learn more by questioning. A happy mind will not have doubts which are not attempted.

An important value every individual person should have in order to stay happy always, Respect does not always to a human being, but also to the environment, surroundings and situations. Respect is reciprocal most of the time, you show to gain the same. When you get 'respect' your inner 'you' becomes happy.

Share and care are another secrets of a happy person. Share your talent, skills, knowledge with other. Care for them who left a happy memory in your life.

Like Respect, Trust is also an essential element for happy life. One can never be happy being distrusting others. For every stages in life trust comes very easily and we need to trust everyone for being happy.

Utilize your talent to the best of its use. It is god gifted. A talented individual becomes more happy when his/her talent is well utilized.

Value everyone's decision, way of thinking and they way they live the life. Not everyone is same in this earth. Value the family members who have supported you in your needs. One can respect the value of every individual and remain happy.

Work hard everyday to be the best person you want to be, never feel guilty even if you fail to do so. Remember every one gets the second chance, or even more.

Look deep inside everyone's heart like X-Ray and understand the goodness in them for you, how grateful they are to you. It will certainly make you very happy.

Yield to your commitment. Stay focused always. If you are committed, your success will fetch you the yield which you are looking for, at the end.

Reflect your memory of happiness by zooming into it. Time does not guarantee with all good situations. When the time goes against the flow zoom into the sweet memories, kindness served to others; those will make you smile on your face and make you happy.

10 Health Benefits of Coconut Water..

Coconut is an amazing fruit mostly available in coastal areas. In many parts of India it is considered as the auspicious fruit which is much needed to offer to our deity God during the 'Puja'. Coconut water is a great alternative to many juice drinks as it contains less sugar and fewer calories.

Most coconut water is still consumed fresh in tropical coastal areas; once exposed to air, the liquid rapidly loses most of it's nutritional characteristics and begins to ferment.

Tender Coconut water is a natural isotonic beverage with the same level of electrolytic balance as we have in our blood. It's the fluid of life, so to speak. It was believed that during the Pacific War of 1941-45, both sides in the conflict regularly used coconut water - siphoned directly from the nut - to give emergency plasma transfusions to wounded soldiers..

The Power of Team's Trust...

In my career journey till date I have been part of several teams, be it operational, administrative, academic, or even project team; I have understood that for the success of any organization team's trust factor is extremely important.
At times, you will experience the get-going vibes of your vibrant team and also you may experience sometimes the glitch in your team's functionality. But all are in the game, you can not ignore them at all.
As rightly quoted by Simon Sinek,

"A TEAM IS NOT A GROUP OF PEOPLE THAT WORK TOGETHER
A TEAM IS A GROUP OF PEOPLE THAT TRUST EACH OTHER."

All the successful professional achieved their milestones not by functioning alone, but by their virtue of getting along with the team. A collaborative approach signifies the team's trust.

I assessed the following Ten Powers of Team's Trust, which can make a team award winning:

➽ 1 | More of Listening than speaking:
In a team, you will always have a blend of experienced and new team members. It goes without saying that most of the time you will witness that the experienced team members are dominating over new ones. But in a balanced team where the team's trust is extremely high, all team members give the space to others, irrespective of their seniority level. In such team you will find the seniors or experienced team members prefer more of listening to their team rather speaking. It gives an amazing environment to work for.

➽ 2 | Safe Environment:
When team members have high trust on each other, influencing a member from the team is not so easy. History is evident that many external body tried to influence or trigger targeted team member's decision  or action. But it certainly fails when the team is united by trust. It creates a secure environment at work.

➽ 3 | Supporting Each Other:
A team with strong trust factor will always have the supporting hand to each other. As Napolean Hill said, "It is literally true that you can succeed best and quickly by helping others to succeed".

➽ 4 | Encouraging Others:
It is not always that you conduct a Town Hall Meet monthly or quarterly to appreciate your team members for their work, in today's date young generation needs to be appreciated at the need of the hour, not after certain period. A highly trusted team will always have 'Pat on the Back' habits among their team members.

➽ 5 | Unbiased Work Culture:
Every organization claims that their team is unbiased, but are they? The truth comes out from their lower level employees whether it is true or not. I strongly believe that unbiased work culture is not driven by management but by the individual members in a team. When the team members vow to maintain trustworthy environment, no one can infuse with biasness. A biased work culture can not make a award winning team.

➽ 6 | Lower Criticism:
When a team doesn't support biased work culture, naturally the criticism takes it's back seat. Criticism is important to success of a team, but it has to be constructive, not based on who the team member is but on the particular behaviour of that individual. A team with high level of trust accepts the constructive criticism and does follow-up accordingly.

➽ 7 | Respecting Team:
A great and noticeable trait in a highly trusted team is respecting each other. They show no differences. They celebrate each victory among team members. They don't hide facts. They respect each other's expertise, skills and ability to make the changes.

➽ 8 | Frequent Win-win moments:
A trusted team will not put their members down for any reason. There is always room for letting others win. A healthy negotiation takes place to create win-win situation after discussions. No one in the team takes charge as autocratic leader.

➽ 9 | No Face-Offs:
Team with highly trust and respect will always create the culture of openness and share there space. No one will ignore others or put others in shame, as there are no dominance. There will be always an encouragement to help each other.

➽ 10 | Great Bonding:
Who does not wish to have a great bonding in a team? Everyone, I am sure. It is not just to preach as a leader of the team, but we must show the team how much we trust them. A successful team will have multi-dimensional individuals to hold the team as one through their skills, knowledge and attitude.

A successful team will struggle, fight but continue to innovate. Successful team acknowledge, resolve the conflicts quickly. Successful team depends on 'WE' instead of 'I', where TRUST plays a very powerful role.

A lovely story of being Proactive...Repair all the leaks !

Other day, I was noticed a lovely quote in the internet -

"Don't approach life's challenges by being REACTIVE. Be PROACTIVE
Prepare for the possibilities before they arrive".

Most of us become reactive in our regular routine; we learn from our mistakes and anticipates the rectification needed in our lives. But there are many of us who learn not only from our own mistakes but also from other's mistakes. And therefore, we become proactive and prepare to face the situations.

Let me share an interesting story on this context. It will certainly fascinate you. The story is of being proactive.

There was a rich man who eventually had the passion of fishing, so he was having many boats for the purpose. One day, he called a painter to paint one of his boat.
The painter brought with him paint and brushes and began to paint the boat a bright red, as the owner asked him.
While painting, he noticed that there was a small hole in the hull, and quietly repaired it.
When finished painting, he received his money and left.
The next day, the owner of the boat came to the painter and presented him with a nice cheque, much higher than the payment for painting.
The painter was surprised and said "You've already paid me for painting the boat Sir!"
"But this is not for the paint job. It's for having repaired the hole in the boat" the owner said.
"Ah! But it was such a small service... certainly it's not worth paying me such a high amount for something so insignificant" hesitantly replied the painter.
The owner explained "My dear friend, you do not understand. Let me tell you what happened. When I asked you to paint the boat, I forgot to mention about the hole. When the boat dried, my kids took the boat and went on a fishing trip. They did not know that there was a hole. I was not at home at that time. When I returned and noticed they had taken the boat, I was desperate because I remembered that the boat had a hole.
Imagine my relief and joy when I saw them returning from fishing. Then, I examined the boat and found that you had repaired the hole! You see, now, what you did? You saved the life of my children! I do not have enough money to pay your 'small' good deed."

The moral of this story conveys that no matter who, when or how; be proactive in your work, anticipate the situations and carefully repair all the 'leaks' you find, because you never know when one is in need of us or when God holds a pleasant surprise for us to be helpful and important to someone.
